Interim use application gets thumbs up by Vergas Planning Commission


The map presented for the gravel pit owned by Mark Sand & Gravel showed five phases. The first phase includes 10 acres and is to be completely mined with the project expected to be completed in three to four years. Phase two is 9.8 acres and includes another four years of work. Phase three is 10 acres. Phase four 7.6 acres. Phase five is 6.8 acres and it was noted the area had been stripped and leveled to accommodate stockpiles and a portable hot mix plant.
Mark Sand & Gravel applied for an interim use permit to operate a gravel pit in the city limits of Vergas.

Historic rail car removal at former Gary’s Furniture presents obstacles


The interior of the observation rail car was altered to fit in the old furniture store and serve as a display area.

Erik Thompson located a page in the book about past rail cars that would be similar to the rail car in the old furniture store, prior to modifications.

A book showing historical train cars has a drawing of a similar observation car that is inside the old furniture building.
Removing a rail car from the former Frazee furniture store building before the storefront is demolished is going to be tough, but not impossible.
