 | | Chad Canton and Tyler Kroshus are among the staff at West Central One Stop, formerly Heisler’s Country Store south of Vergas. An abundance of services are available, with a 7-9 schedule weekdays, and open until 11 p.m. on weekends. A staff of eight is working at the recently opened facility.

After purchasing the former Heisler's Country Store at the end of last year, Chad Canton and his staff have made the new business sparkle.
West Central One Stop, just a mile south of Vergas, opened recently after putting in place several upgrades, new equipment purchases and the hiring of seven additional staff members.
Canton's crew is working hard in readiness to display everything at the grand opening Saturday, July 24. The convenience store portion of the operation will be well stocked and the cafe will have expanded offerings. Currently, the food operation is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but breakfast offerings will begin in August.
The phone number is 342-2288. The address is 32021 County Highway 4.
The C-Store will obviously have pop, milk, beer, ice cream and all sorts of food staples. Friendly faces will be at the cash register and elsewhere in the building to help visitors.
Sitting in the middle of a resort-recreation area, a variety of lively fishing bait will be available to both vacationers and residents, along with hunting and fishing licenses, of course. Tackle will offer the latest hot items to entice the lunkers.
Flexible and helpful
All of the entities are up and running, as are the laundromat, the car wash, repair bays and gas pumps. There is pay-at-the-pump when visitors need gas or diesel fuel after regular hours.
While general hours at West Central One Stop will be 7-9 weekdays and 7-11 on Fridays and Saturdays, repairs will be handled 8-5 most days.
"But if someone has a special job, we can make arrangements," the owner stated.
Working as the top diesel mechanic is Tyler Kroshus, but Canton can assist with what he expects to be a busy schedule on the mechanical scene. Any engines can be worked on - including cars and trucks, but much more.
"We'll fix small engines - boat motors, lawnmowers, chain saws - just about anything," Kroshus explained. Of course, oil changes and general engine maintenance on passenger cars and trucks will be available.
The young staff member is an ASE-certified mechanic.
The facility will also offer full service on tires, whether for regular passenger vehicles, trucks or ag-related operations. It was noted that the firm expects to add a truck for on-the-farm service sometime in the future. If a person has a flat tire, the staff can repair it.
Services will expand
The West Central One Stop lineup of services resembles a restaurant's expanding menu, with a pontoon boat and a skid steer loader and attachments available for rent. More items will join the lineup soon.
"I even have a man who will run the skid steer if someone has some landscaping to do," Canton added.
He pointed out that often it is less expensive to have an expert on the machine, while the resident renting the service "becomes the supervisor," he smiled.
A service that has not been offered in the Vergas area in quite some time is towing. West Central One Stop has a truck at the ready.
Getting set for the grand opening July 24, just nine days away, he said staff will be grilling hot dogs and they will be free along with Coke.
Moreover, during the business celebration there will be gift certificates, door prizes, T-shirts and oil changes.
