Massage therapist opens business on Frazee's Main Ave.
 | by Barbie Porter
Frazee's Main Avenue has a new business that will likely bring relaxation to many in the area.
Frazee resident Kari Falk officially opened Kari Lynn Massage in the Langen Family Chiropractic building Monday, Jan. 18.
She gives a variety of massages, including:
Therapeutic massage, which is the most popular. It relieves tension, rids the muscles of knots and improves posture.
Deep tissue massage, which can be vigorous or gentle, and focuses on realigning deep layers of muscle and connective tissue.
Hot stone massage, which utilizes warmed stones to relax tight muscles.
On-site massages, where Kari brings a chair and gives massages at events, such as business conferences.
Pre-natal and post partum massages that are geared toward relaxation for expecting mothers or those who just gave birth.
Massages cost between $25-$65 depending on the duration and the type of massage.
Seniors, students and military personnel receive a $5 discount.
Massages are by appointment only, 329-9187, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or Saturday by request only.
Kari, an official distributor of Young Living Essential Oils, allows her clients to indulge the senses in a variety of scents to increase relaxation during the massage. She even carries 100 percent grape seed oil to accommodate those with allergies.
A car accident begins
a new career path
When Kari was in fourth grade, she was riding in the car with her mother and was in a head-on collision.
"A year later I started having these really bad headaches, which just wasn't typical for a fourth grader," she recalled.
Kari was referred to a massage therapist to address her headaches, and the sessions worked.
Since then, she's been hooked on the concept of healing through massage techniques, and began practicing while in high school on family and friends until she was able to get formal training. Kari attended the West Oahu Wellness and Massage Education Center in Hawaii and learned to read muscles and posturing to understand what techniques will best serve her clients.
After graduating in 2006 she returned to the lakes area and continued her schooling at Wadena Tech, where she earned her certified massage license and accrued a total of 950 hours as a massage therapist.
Kari then went to work for well-known businesses, such as Thumper Pond and the Lodge on Lake Detroit.
She moved to Frazee in October.
"I really like the location because Frazee is right between Perham and Detroit Lakes," she said.
Kari considered starting her own business and shopped around for office space. She noted the rental price for office space on Frazee's Main Avenue was a perfect fit for her start-up budget.
