Can somebody please come up with some good presidential candidates?

Bowling, from some accounts, has been enjoyed by Americans as far back as the early 1800s when it was mentioned by Washington Irving in his famous tale of Rip Van Winkle who was woken from sleep by the sound of “crashing ninepins.”

There seems to be a certain amount of confusion pertaining to Sen. Gretchen Hoffman’s (R-Vergas) bill, for the sake of simplicity, we will  call it the "Stand your Ground Bill."

Cally’s Corner: Fishing trip cut short

Written by Cally Nundahl

My husband Darby and son Tucker went with Darby’s old friend Shawn Koplin on an adventure to Lake of the Woods last weekend.

(Part III)

On one of our attempts to go through the Copper Canyon in Mexico with the travel club friends we had made several other trips with, we had planned to bus to Chihuahua and stay there overnight, then take the train on a one-way trip through the canyon to Los Mochis.

The first store built in Vergas now sits among the rocks and timberland four miles west of town. It’s on a road some of us call “the lost highway” but the Candor Township plat book shows it as an extension of County Highway 130 (470th Street).

Cally’s Corner: Only as old as you feel

Written by Cally Nundahl

Letter: Happy birthday anyone?

Written by Janne Myrdal, Park River, N.D

I remember May 4, 2008 as if it was yesterday. Why? Because that day I was not in a good mood. Actually all I could think of that morning was me, myself and I. Kids were off to school; my beloved off to spring work on the farm, and I was grumpy – really grumpy. I remember it well.

Around the Bend: A pampered woman is good for a man

Written by Daneele Shipman

While I did grow up as a girly girl, as everyone well knows I have evolved into a woman who is not afraid to work hard, get sweaty and even at times be a grease monkey.

The other day, while perusing my fantasies in a newspaper’s food section, I saw a headline something like, “Why cook Brussels sprouts?” or maybe it was just, “Why Brussels sprouts?”
