The heroes of Independence Day

This oil painting of “The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America” by Armand-Dumaresq (c. 1873) has been hanging in the White House since the late 1980s when the late First Lady Barbara Bush hung it above the fireplace in the Cabinet Room.
Last week we celebrated our nation’s birthday. It’s been 242 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed and the 13 colonies declared independence from Britain.
