Finally, off the couch

skiing
Warming temperatures brought out the outdoor enthusiasts this past weekend as Sunday’s high was near 46 degrees. By the end of the day, some of the packed ski trails were slush. These women, (from left) Rita Stelzer, Diane Gigstead, Tammy Tate and Mary Schermerhorn, joined a group of 14 who skied the sled dog trails through the Smoky Hills at Ed & Amy Streeper’s place near Shell Lake in northern Becker County. Thursday temperatures are expected to rise to 59 degrees and Sunday the area is expected to blow by the 60-degree mark. Gale Kaas photo

The last several years I have not had the chance to visit my sister in Blaine and my niece and nephew as much as I would like.

Excited for spring

After a little spring cleaning, CallaBelle grabbed some aqua colored paint and a paint brush and painted the stairs going up to our studio. Cally and husband Darby Nundahl live in rural Frazee and have six children. Cally enjoys spending time with family and friends, quilting, writing, painting, the outdoors and the country life. She is a writer, photographer, typesetter and proofreader for the Frazee-Vergas Forum.
The first warm day arrived and it stirred up excitement of what is to come. I was so excited I went outside on my porch with bare feet. For me, spring and the thought of warmer weather lifts my spirits and just makes me smile.

My brother – a legend in his own time

I knew right out of high school there was no point in trying to follow in my older brother Bob’s footsteps. The imprints were too deep – too revered.

Remembering farm pets from years ago

When I read about the pets the Nundahls have (in Cally’s Corner weekly column) I think about all the pets and animals we had on the farm, some of which could not be considered as pets, but interesting anyway.
