Fr. Xavier Ilango honored for 25 years in the priesthood


Two bishops, many priests, numerous parishioners and a host of visitors were on hand to help Fr. Xavier Ilango commemorate his 25 years in the priesthood. Girl Scout donates picnic tables to Vergas


Brooke Lammers, Pelican Rapids, recently lead the build of 10 picnic tables that were donated to Vergas as part of her Gold Award Girl Scout project.

Smiths return goodwill shown to them in time of need

 It only took an estimated four hours for Christina Lacey and her three children to lose all their belongings.

United Methodist pastor will retire to Browns Valley home


Rev. Gary Klempke, who has served the United Methodist churches in both Vergas and Frazee for 10 years, has left the local pulpit and will turn to retirement. He presided over a joint service for the two congregations Sunday, with the service being held at the Vergas house of worship. It was the 1,401st service for the minister. He and his wife will live in Browns Valley where he was police chief for many years before serving his first church in that area 13 years ago. One of his favorite avocations that will keep him busy is golf. Another hobby is watching NASCAR. Photo by John W. Dermody
